Red Balloon - A great place to "pop" in!

Review by: April
Okay, can I be totally honest about something??? I have been avoiding the Red Balloon boutique for 3 years now, because I knew deep down I would become obsessed with it. The gifts I have received from this store are my all time favorites and my bank account requested that I STAY AWAY! Well...last week, I walked in. I knew I would love it there. Darn.

First of all, the place is busy. Boutiquing has been somewhat of a solo sport lately, but at Red Balloon, I was in good company. As usual, I checked out the girls stuff first - awesome stuff from jottum, Chipie, Little Marc, and Juicy (and not just the terry sweats...). However, those of you who know me, know that I judge the success of a kids boutique on their boys side, The Red Balloon soars. Not only is the boy's side EQUAL in size, it has the girls side beat as far as unique designers and great style. There are tons of options from Catimini, Okkies (their drawstring pant is THE best for boys), Joe's Jeans (from 6 months up), OC based Kingsley, C&C, Splendid, 3 Pommes, I could literally go on and on.

Another fantastic surprise...the Women's section! Hello! The entire back of the store (which I assumed was maternity) is for ME! Jam packed with pieces from Language, Sweetees, Paige Jeans, Susanna Monaco, Frock! by Tracy Reese, and maxi dresses by Ella Moss.

BUT WAIT! The best part....The Red Balloon has a WAREHOUSE!!! Yes, I happened to be in the store on a Thursday and they casually mentioned they had a warehouse sale going on down the street. I grabbed a map and left a few tire skid marks in the parking lot, sorry about that.

Okay. The warehouse. You have NO idea. AMAZING...once I found it. It is off of 17th & Babcock - basically on the opposite side of Newport Blvd. from the retail store. There are a few little signs in the grass, and you have to go around to the back of the building. I drove by twice, it just didn't look open. Here is a picture of the door.

It is literally a giant place filled with racks (well organized by size), and there was no one else there. Lucky for me my son was asleep in the stroller - so I got to dig for over an hour. EVERYTHING is 65% off. We are talking every brand they have in the store - there were 12 racks of women's stuff alone! There is a little makeshift changing room under the stairs, and two full length mirrors. They even have a bathroom inside. I literally felt like I was at my own personal sample sale! I scored a dress from Luna Luna for my daughter, and great shirts for my son from Kingsley for almost nothing. There are tables filled with designer jeans for everyone and the fact that it isn't crazy busy, means it is well organized and easy to shop.

The Red Balloon Warehouse is open:
Tuesdays & Thursdays & the 1st Saturday of each month
9:00 - 2:30.
Boutiquing wisdom: all sales are final - so TRY IT ON! And they take cash and credit cards. Go now - this place will be discovered before you know it and has the potential to be a madhouse! Head to the retail store first, and grab a map - if you're lucky, your kid will fall asleep on the drive over...trust me this place won't disappoint.

Tootsies - Affordable & Adorable Foot Indulgence

Laguna Beach, Orange County Boutique Pique
By: Erin Hall @ Boutiquing

I’m asking myself, after living in Orange County for nine years, why have I believed my Laguna boutiquing experience ended at Main Beach and Forest? I never ventured far enough south, that’s why! After the suggestion of a friend to visit some cute boutiques on the 1200 block of PCH, I parked my car, dropped some quarters in the meter and started walking to see what I could find. Although I’m sad it took me this long, like Jasmine, I found "a WHOLE new world!"

I literally stumbled upon Tootsies…no pun intended. The moment I walked in this boutique I heard the shoe angels singing! The sensory overload of bright jewel tone platforms, edgy metallics, shiny sling backs, ruffled peep toes and snake skin made me “ohhhhhhhhhh” out loud. With its posh and immaculate boutique feel you would expect a high price point to naturally follow…but not at Tootsies, their moto is affordable and adorable and GIRL do they deliver.

Franco Sarto
, BCBG Girls, Seychelles, Sam Edelman and Steve Madden are just a few of the recognizable favorites. Forget having to drive to the mall for a wide selection of shoes. The owner Nini has done a fabulous job stocking the walls with all the hottest 2009 shoe trends, in multiple styles and a wide array of colors. Looking for a sexy heel to match your new dress? Do you need a comfortable and stylish pump for work? Are you searching for a flirty wedge to compliment your summer dresses? Or are you looking for an embellished or metallic sandal perfect for pairing with jeans and a casual top? Literally, there were so many styles that caught my eye it made it hard to focus. I’ll tell you what I could focus on, the amazing prices. You can easily walk out of Tootsies with three pairs of shoes under $200. I tell no lies. You won’t want to miss the entire wall of shoes on sale for $20 or the beautiful selection of purses and clutches to make your outfit complete.

Zazu Boutique - Tempting and Fun

New Laguna Beach Boutique Review
by: Erin @ Boutiquing.com

Somewhat of an anomaly, Zazu mixes high-end designers and lesser known brands while keeping a friendly beach city feel. If you’ve ever taken the 133 down to Laguna Beach you probably drove right past this hidden boutique before you hit PCH (you turn left into a small center on Broadway before hitting Beach Street)

From sheer ruffled blouses to signature print dresses my boutiquing appetite was satisfied with an abundance of the amazing Diane Von Furstenburg. Always funky with flare, L.A.M.B. purses were 25-40% OFF...yes it required SHEER will power to walk away. Zazu also has a large selection of Michael Stars marked down to a low $25, at this price you’d be silly not to stock up on theses simple tees with an amazing fit.

Don't let the designer names fool you, this boutique is anything but stuffy. The most memorable part of my shopping experience was the sales staff at Zazu. Katie, Nicole and Alana effortlessly made me feel like I was shopping with my best friend, they love their job and it shows. Attentive, knowledgeable and cheery these girls made me want to stay longer and chat (we were discussing if a girl can REALLY “fall in love” after one date :)

Representing a good mix of basics, Zazu offers soft cotton wraps and skirts, jackets and a knee high jewelry chest full of accessories under $30. Lu Lu Lame tops are a flirty and economical solution to perfectly compliment Zazu’s wide selection of denim, including: Vitamina , Rich and Skinny and 7 for all mankind.

Duo Boutique - Edgy Bling in Laguna

Duo Boutique - Laguna Beach,
Orange County Boutique Pique

By: Erin Hall @ Boutiquing

*BOUTIQUE CLOSED 1/2010

I get so excited when I find a new boutique, especially in Laguna where it seems I’ve seen them all. Duo Boutique pleasantly surprised me with a flirtatious mix of girlie bling and bad ass. My head started bopping the moment I walked in, an ultra cool house remix was pumping through the speakers. Instantly, my mood switched from lazy Saturday treasure hunting to where was I gonna go dancing that night and what hot little top would I find to wear.

Don’t let the small store front fool you, Duo uses every bit of space from the ceiling to the floor, so make sure your eyes scan every inch. I found an assortment of funky cut ReRock tanks, always adorable Romeo & Juliet Couture (the perfect addition to ANY wardrobe) and Edgy KRMA leather jackets that were screaming my name. Adorning the shelves above each rack were studded purses, embellished candles by Aglou, crystal skull flip flops and all things flashy, perfect for the women who loves attention.

Duo (the word also implies "a couple") has a selection of men’s clothing so that you and your man can have the same edgy flavor. A quarter of the store is dedicated to the man who likes accentuating his physique with fitted thermals, edgy tees, unique hoodies and thick silver jewelry by A&G (these bad boys aren’t cheap, but they sure do make a statement).

One of the most fascinating pieces I found (jewelry of course :) were these gold, band rings made out of recycled U.S. coins etched with words like believe, peace and love. You can be an eco-friendly recycler, encouraging, unique AND stylish for just $50.

The Vault - Find His Style Here

Review by: April

When I walked into The Vault, a perfectly laid out masterpiece of a men's boutique in Laguna, a rush of makeover madness washed over me...watch out honey! Not only is this boutique IMMACULATE - here is a look inside...

... it is also filled with incredibly stylish and wearable options from every top designer for men.

Arlene, the newest shop girl to join The Vault's highly capable team, comes straight from the denim world, and shares her vast knowledge about every line carried in the store as though she has worked there for years. This boutique is perfect for the man who needs to grab some updated versions of his staples, such as dress shirts from Robert Graham (they stock each style in 6 colors and sizes small to 5X) and Atelier or denim from the proven lines Rock & Republic and True Religion. Check out the denim by Laguna Beach, my husband discovered these jeans in Vegas a while ago, great designs and nice fit, and what better brand to buy in Laguna??? Also in store are some edgier options from Just Cavalli for men, Ed Hardy and incredible leather jackets from Diesel.

The vibe here is upscale, and the attentive staff makes this boutique experience comfortable for all who visit. From the man who knows exactly what he wants, to the man who needs a bit of help navigating the sometimes overwhelming land of fashion, The Vault delivers a reliable result. Although the prices in this store are on the higher end, the quality and customer service make the extra money well spent.

Coming up on March 26th there is a great opportunity to introduce your man to The Vault. 944 magazine is hosting a Mark Nason trunk show (if you haven't seen what this man does with leather you are missing out), including cocktails, free giveaways, and special pricing from 6-9 pm. ENVY Boutique - Where have you been all my life?

Review by: April
Can I be perfectly honest...usually by the time I have boutiqued down Forest Ave. as far as Muse, I have realized that one more stop could land me looking for a second job. What this means is, I have been missing out on ENVY...for 10YEARS!

The whole experience went a little like this...I look to my right...tons of adorable casual wear, perfect for the busy Mom circuit. Pieces by Da-nang, Twisted Heart, and Butterfly Dropout. I look to my left...romantic, artistic options from Rebecca Taylor, floaty pieces from For Life and Liberty, and tons of twelfth street by Cynthia Vincent – a woman who knows a basic need not be basic. Straight ahead was row upon row of great layering pieces by C&C, and tons of denim options.

Like most boutiques these days the SALE racks were amazing, and I found myself wanting to take the time to look at each piece so I wouldn't miss anything. It is unheard of for an independent boutique to have such extensive collections of these fantastic designers and I am starting to think this could be the only place I need to shop for a long time.

After talking with owner Phyllis, and her husband, who are the most approachable, down to earth boutique owners you can imagine, I got the sense that she would do most anything to keep her customers happy. This is a boutique to frequent – their size ranges are great, and whatever the occasion, I would bet the perfect thing is just waiting for you here.

A bit of boutiquing wisdom...this is a large store, with a lot of inventory. Take your time and do a few laps, there are a ton of possibilities everywhere you turn. You can also shop their website and get FREE shipping and 10% off all orders over $100...or pre-shop and pick it up in the store (just let me warn you, you may find some more to add to that shopping bag...).

Two Fifty Four - Snoop Around This Store

Review by: Erin
Warm, eclectic and accessory clad, Two Fifty Four has suprisingly morphed into a very friendly destination for all of us recessionistas. This little boutique represents its Laguna home with a mix of girlie boho goodies and beachy flare. Personally, I'm always a sucker for a flirty summer dress to throw over my swimsuit that can double as date dress when sassed up with a dramatic necklace and a sexy heel. Trendy fedoras, unique skinny belts, rockin high heels and ground gripping gladiator sandals were just a few of the things I found when snooping around.

As a girl who loves her sexy heels but values wearability in the truest sense of the word, I was happy to see Two Fifty Four carries Vincent Camuto. Any heel you can wear to work where you are on your feet for 8 hours straight and not limp home in tears, are an instant love of mine. Always interesting is a good mix of Jeffrey Campbell styles. This designer continually delivers a tasty mix of quirky, cute and sexy from his embellished flats to vintage style pumps and strappy platforms...all without sacraficing comfort or breaking the bank.

One of the reasons I love accessories is you can capture a trend or make a bold statement at a fraction of the cost of an entire outfit. In addition to shoes, Two Fifty Four has a wide selection of this seasons "hot" accessory trend (no pun intended) the summer scarf. Wether you choose a bright royal blue with metallic thread or a suttle earthy tone, these scarves perfectly compliment their retro statement tees by junk food. I personally bought a coral la vie boheme tee on sale for $18 that looks adorable under my pin striped blazer.

From experience, April and I have adopted a saying, "Glass is BAD!"... this simply means anything behind glass will probablly cause us deep pain...financially speaking. But not at Two Fifty Four, their glass jewelry wall case, the size of 3 french doors, offered a wide selection of trendy accessories that look anything but cheap...hold your gasp...all under the $20 range.

Randy Boutique - Going out Tonight?

Review by: April
Randy boutique has an energy about it that I can only describe as - ready to party. Everything about being in this store makes me want to have a girls night out. This store is fun and daring, and is perfect for a woman who does not take life too seriously, or would like to pretend not to for one night:)

The vast array of cute and colorful clothing begs to be thrown in a suitcase and taken to Vegas. I saw more great dresses in this place than I have in a while. Randy boutique consistently delivers hot trends, perfectly suited for the girl who wants to be noticed. This is not to say that those of us who lead less adventurous lives don't dare enter. The collection of sunglasses I discovered was enough to quench my personal desire to feel too sexy for Laguna. At the risk of seeming like a montage in a cheesy teen movie, I did try on multiple scarves and sunglasses to find the perfect incognito look.

If you are headed to Vegas, or simply Club M, make a quick stop at Randy boutique, and bring out your inner party girl. Just be advised...the man in your life may like this so much, you receive all future gifts from this store...
