Sundancer - Beaming with Fashion Finds

Del Mar, San Diego Boutique Pique
by: Erin Hall @ Boutiquing

Like their name implies, Sundancer boutique in adorable downtown Del Mar, is bright and beaming with fresh fashion finds. Although this rectangular boutique isn't a lot of frills it IS home to an impeccable selection of top labels and designers. As would be expected of a tourist town boutique, Sundancer is clearly experienced in catering to a wide range of styles, everything from comfortable Michael Stars to blinged out Bejeweled. I was happy to find a refreshing mix of SKY tops and dresses in bright colors and styles outside the flashy flashy box and more on the girlie and glowing side (a bit of variety is always admired by an avid boutiquer).

For those who love casual chic with a little funk see their abundant selection of Da-Nang capris and roomy cotton pants or their fleur de lis and cross crystal studded Twisted Heart sweat suits. Tiered tanks and gauzy tops by Baily 44, patterned, floral and silk Hale Bob and boho sass from JWLA create a rainbow of options to pair with comfy linen or denim digs. Sundancer carries tanks, tubes and under shirts galore, including Beyonce's favorite body slimming cami's from Yummie Tummie (boutiquing wisdom: they fit snug, so remember to step INTO them vs. pulling over your head ;)

A surprise to no one, now that you all know I'm an accelerated "A" on the style scale (take the quiz here to see what style letter your are), I couldn't stop commenting on the absolutely gorgeous necklaces, earrings and bracelets Sundancer had perfectly perched on the counter. Bold cobalt blue and sheer topaz gem chandeliers, metallic gold and amber stone hoops and dainty cluster drop necklaces with a vibrant Indian vibe had me starring into the glass repeatedly. If you're looking for delicate yet dazzling, do stop into Sundancer for truly radiant jewelry.

Don't forget to work your way to the back of this boutique, Sundancer has a secret alcove dedicated to two full racks of stunning one up sale items. April scored a perfectly cut jean jacket that she wore today with a patterned top and pencil skirt, just one of the many looks the jacket will compliment...know what that means?? Money well spent!

OOH LA LA - Riveting Rhinestones and Rockstars

San Juan Capistrano, Orange County Boutique Pique
By: Erin Hall @ Boutiquing

Flashy, metallic, luxe...it all comes to life at Ooh La La just off the 5 freeway and Ortega Hwy. This mini chain (4 locations) boutique is a bling bling girl's paradise with service that sparkles to match. I was overly impressed by the shop girl Laney who happily greeted me and set the tone for a bad ass boutiquing blast. Although not nearly as crystal clad and diva decadent as their Del Mar location, Ooh La La is always stocked with luscious SKY tops and dresses, edgy stone chain and rhinestone blasted Kimikal pieces, Bejeweled sweat suits, tanks and leather jackets and seductive Salvage tops at all times. For those of you who love color and comfort try Treasure Rock and Ceico tops, tunics, jumpers and dresses.

If you haven't caught my drift yet, Ooh La La likes to sparkle with sass! Their impressive jean collection that is anything but tame. Gold studded and shredded Robin's Jeans, metallic thick stitch Bishop of Seventh, crystal button pocket jeans by L.A. Idol and yes, some simple straight up denim from Cello hung beautifully in the structured wall. You'll find leopard, butter soft leather and metallic sheen purses, hats and belts scattered through out the boutique ready to take any tank and jeans to the "notice me" level.

I feel in love with several styles of their flirty sandals...embellished with what? CRYSTALS of course! Gladiators from Dizzy, seahorse rhinestone studded t-straps, studded wedges and blinged cowgirl boots with leather cut outs and pastel paintings created the cutest displays. Ooh La La does a great job of creating outfits throughout the store. For those of you who get inspired by (or it's just easier to shop) complete looks, you'll find numerous outfit options ready to wear from head to heels. Although I've only seen the San Juan Capistrano and Del Mar boutiques, I look forward to visiting their first location in Carlsbad and then journey to Temecula for the full Ooh La La boutiqing experience.

MELIA BOUTIQUE - Antique Accessories Abound

Balboa Peninsula,
Orange County
Boutique Pique

By: April @ Boutiquing

*CLOSING 1/31/2010
50% OFF EVERYTHING!

Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach may not be the first place that comes to mind when looking for affordable vintage jewelry that feels uniquely one of a kind. I have hunted through Pasadena's famed Rose Bowl, Santa Monica's Vintage Expo, and numerous NYC street fairs and was shocked, and truly thrilled, when I found the statement making and affordable collection I had been searching for was right in my own backyard on 32nd Street at Melia's. The wide open shop is in transition from being a clothing store with a bit of vintage jewelry to a vintage jewelry store with a bit of clothing, and has already convinced me that this was is a stellar plan. Husband and wife team, Melia and Ben, are really playing to their strengths with the direction of the new store, and Melia's father, a fine jeweler, has made some vintage discoveries I am still dreaming about.

I happened upon Melia's before they opened one day, and through the window I found myself enamored with an ornate and elegant looking silver and onyx necklace that would surely transform any look from ready to wear to regal. My window shopping forced me to imagine a price for this kind of piece, and having recently fallen in love with its twin priced at $3000 in an airport (I know, I shop everywhere), I had a feeling it would also have a giant price tag. As I walked around the block and waited for the 11am to roll around, I caught myself creating look after look in my mind, all featuring the necklace I was now in LOVE with from Melia's. When they opened, I strolled in casually, I couldn't let them know I had been dying to come in, and I circled the necklace like a bird does its prey. I looked at absolutely everything in the store before even allowing this amazing necklace to know I was interested. I was dazzled by perfect with a tee daytime rhinestones, delicate and demure vintage coin purses, rows and rows of Navajo sterling and turquoise squash blossoms I had once hunted for in New Mexico and never found...again, found right here in the OC. Just when I knew the necklace had given up on me, I went in for the kill. Melia brought it down off of it's pedestal and clasped it around my neck...and as I admired it's beauty from every angle, I asked what the damage would be...the boutiquing gods were seriously on my side, because this best in show bauble was a doable $200...AND it was 50% off...so, $100!!!!! Here I am, smiling in my steal of a vintage piece....

This discovery made me realize that although all of the pieces at Melia's LOOK like a million bucks, they most certainly don't cost that. Their prices start at $10, and go up to $2000, but the
bulk of the collection is well under $300 (especially during their July and December sales, when much of the store is 50% off). It is obvious that they buy with an eye for the current trends in vintage, but their passion is in the organic and raw beauty of turquoise and natural stone. I noticed the subtle lean toward green in this boutique, from the back wall color, to the recycling of estate jewelry, to the commitment to make all of their packaging and bags earth friendly. After my experience at Melia's I am even more convinced by how much I love my job...although maybe I should have kept this boutiquing gold mine to myself...these pieces ARE all one of a kind...well okay, you can go too...but don't forget to tell them boutiquing sent you! And speaking of that...sign up here for V.I.Perks - Melia's has an exclusive discount for our members!

BOUTIQUING.COM WHAT TO WEAR - Going to the Fair

The OC Fair is the place to be this weekend! The Super Fair has it ALL this year, fast rides, fried foods, and entertainment unlike any year I can remember. This occasion is tough in the style department though. First of all....it's HOT, then there is all of the walking, and lastly, something I learned the hard way this year, you have to wear close toed shoes if you want to go on the Fun Houses! And really, who doesn't want to have their own Grease moment on the balcony of the Fun House at the fair?

So here we go, it's broken down by Style Letter...take our quiz here to find out what letter you are!

A: Aspiring Stylist
There will be enough bad style at the Fair, bring your "A" game and feel the envious stares of, "Why didn't I dress cute like her?". Start with a great pair of distressed boyfriend jeans, cool cotton blouse, easy (closed toe) sandals, and a stylish bag and belt that pull the look together. Now, go ahead, pull him into the photo booth...you look great:)

B: Best of the Best
Bring some chic to the Fair with a bit of classic glamour. A cinched waist blouse and printed full skirt keep you stylish and comfortable. Add in a great pair of flats and a casual straw bag an d you don't even have to stay for the hot dog, this look will take you into any restaurant in the OC.

C: Celebrating Sexy
You know how to work a heel, and the fair is no place to feel like a frump. Pair some fun and sparkly shoes with a pair of cropped jeans and a flirty tank. Add in some incognito with a sexy hat and sunglasses and enjoy the atmosphere like a little kid!

D: Daring Dabbler
Channel your inner day off starlet with a cropped denim skirt, neon embellished tank, and your favorite pair of Chuck Taylor's. Enjoy the view from behind a pair of Ray Bans, just don't be surprised if people ask for your autograph, this look is sure to solicit that "is she someone?" second glance.

E: Everyday Ease
Admit it, you love the fair, no organic applesauce in sight and guaranteed family entertainment for the day. Wear a cute pair of cropped jeans, and casual yet flattering knit top, and your trusty ballet flats. Add a nice size tote, you know how kids just seem to collect things, and be ready for an old fashioned day of family fun!

See other "What to Wear" event outfit suggestions or leave a comment below if you have an event/occasion you'd like us to create looks for.

ANNMARIE BOUTIQUE - Brilliance and Beachy Chic Collide

New Del Mar Boutique Pique
by: Erin @ Boutiquing

Nothing is more exciting than finding a new boutique off the beaten path. Like pirates hunting for buried gold in uncharted waters, often boutiquing motivates us to turn down random streets in search of the unknown. I'm so glad we are risk takers ;) Annmarie Boutique in Del Mar was the "hidden treasure" of our weekend journey. This boutique made the entire day of sweat and tears worth it (it was insanely hot and we almost cried at the lack of boutiquing options ....Finally Redemption!). Annmaries is where brilliance and beachy chic collide, with it's rich espresso wood, vibrant color palette, flirting clothing and glass jewelry cases full of stunning and unique hand made jewelry. Boutique owner, Annmarie D'Ercole couldn't be any sweeter or more likeable! She has the perfect demeanor for a beach city boutique, easy going, knowledgeable and dedicated to delivering a creative and comfortable atmosphere people go home talking about.

Annmarie Boutique is as memorable inside as it is outside, their store front view is a postcard perfect shot of the Del Mar beach horizon. Everything from casual to call me tomorrow, you'll find bright blasts of gem colored "LBD's" (formerly the "Little BLACK Dress"...now coined the "Little BOLD Dress" for 2009's bold colors) Rich hues and inexpensive prices from Poppy Garden and MM Couture, ruffled v-neck mini's from Theme, structured and flirty cocktail dresses from NU and always timeless styles expected from Laundry by Shelli Segal.

Although small and quaint, Annmaries is surprisingly saturated with options. There is a covered back deck dedicated to numerous rolling racks of sale merchandise and a back corner plump and perfectly poised for ordering premium denim like Hudson, J Brand, Rich & Skinny and Joe's. Being the savvy boutique owner she is, Annmarie has created a ceiling high display case next to the denim, fill with consignment designer handbags. Gently used but still knockouts, find covet worthy Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Chanel handbags at discounted prices. They also carry an impressive selection of edgy Tylie Malibu satchel, tote and hobo bags.

Most notable is Annmarie's personal jewelry line "D'Ercole". Dusted in and around the boutique and displayed on mocha suede stands over scattered river rocks, this line is clearly created with finesse and love for a truly prestigious feel. See delicate hammered gold tear drop earrings, rose gold and crystal band rings and white sapphire fleur de lis and emblem layered charms neckalces. If you value craftsmanship and originality, be careful, you might drool all over the glass.

Oh, and as every good beach city boutique should have... Annmaries has your eyes covered with a tower of totally trendy AND totally inexpensive sunglasses ($12! each...perfect in case of an emergency ;)

THE SOUTHERN CROSS - Pretty New Room with a View

Del Mar, San Diego Boutique Pique
By: April Madigan @ Boutiquing

*THIS BOUTIQUE CLOSED 12/09

A recent trip beyond the borders of the OC landed Erin and I in the lap of undiscovered boutiquing luxury. Our fortunate first stop was the fresh and fantastic boutique, The Southern Cross. Located atop a high end shopping center (Del Mar Plaza) with a priceless view of the ocean, I was delighted to see the space so perfectly turned out in beach cottage meets chandelier chic. Crossing over the vibrant entry lined with the most original outdoor rugs, I was intrigued by the mix of sophisticated ethnic inspired looks and embellished casual wear from Live with Love and one of my new favorites eco-ganik. A clever selection of baby and kiddo clothing tied perfectly into the sandcastle whimsy of this breezy boutique. Photographs by Jessica Davis, a creative local photographer, framed in rustic whitewashed boardwalk frames pop under the soft glow of vintage boudoir light fixtures.

A wrought iron crib filled with baby booties and super comfy play clothes cried out to me and the sight of my number one gift for a new mom - a Market Sling by Serena and Lily had me raving to anyone who could hear. Seriously, if you haven't seen these gorgeous slings you need to, it is the one item that makes me want another baby, just to own this beautiful baby sling...and word on the street is that The Southern Cross will soon be carrying Serena & Lily bedding - worth a trip here to see it.

I couldn't stop staring at the exquisite selection of Yoana Baraschi pieces on display. I tried on a Grecian inspired dress silk dress that had one of the best feeling fits ever. This line offers up perfect feminine statement dresses that do not sacrifice comfort. Alongside the lovely clothes are kitschy aprons and shabby chic style vintage furniture that suit the seaside style of this spot perfectly. As I stood and admired a rod iron bed I caught myself gazing out the window and enjoying the breathtaking view of the ocean over the lavish L'Auberge resort across the way. For a boutique that has been open a few short weeks, it is evident owners Peggy and Tara have done their job in finding perfectly suited pieces that resonate with the equal parts local and tourist clientele stopping by this boutique. The two are hosting a Grand Opening Party July 31st complete with wine and appetizers...if you enjoy the Laguna Beach Rooftop experience, The Southern Cross is the boutiquing equivalent, and you will leave with more than just a morning after hangover:P

A bit of boutiquing wisdom: Park in the structure behind the plaza, all of the stores and restaurants validate and you get 2 hours free parking with validation, otherwise there is ample street parking for 90 minutes, but strict meter watchers are everywhere!

OC BOUTIQUE SHOPPING - Patricia Di Gioia Boutique & Beauty Lounge Review

Patricia Di Gioia Boutique & Beauty Lounge - Blissful Boutiquing on Balboa Peninsula
Review by: April

Pulling up to a promising little strip of Balboa Peninsula boutiques on 32nd St., I was greeted by the soulful sound of Patsy Cline escaping through the wide open front door of the most charming little cottage like boutique around. I felt like I was instantly transported to a simpler time, as the music played and I was greeted by owner Patricia, performing her first relaxing pedicure of the day on a loyal client. As the woman comfortably lounged in the spa chair in the center of the shop she raved about the ability of boutique owner and manicurist Patricia. Soothed by the sound of girl talk I slowly made my way through the brilliantly decorated boutique. I couldn't help but be reminded of the Steel Magnolia's beauty shop scenes where all who entered were instantly drawn into whatever conversation may be taking place. Overstuffed, over sized comfy chairs welcome anyone to languish and enjoy one of Patricia's many raved about mani/pedi miracles. I was certainly excited to peruse the beauty menu, and was dying to try the peppermint pedicure. Her spa/boutique is certainly the spot to hang out and stay awhile, and possibly more intriguing than her extensive nailcare options is the incredible selection of beachy boho style clothing and jewelry surrounding the shop. It is obvious there is a deep appreciation for beauty in this boutique as demonstrated by the floral still life paintings covering the walls and hanger after hanger, custom decorated with the most beautiful fabric - all handmade by Patricia herself.

Even if a mani/pedi isn't on your agenda, the boutiquing here is blissful. Flattering Free People tops and Level 99 denim share the space with great Lucy Love tanks in every color you can
think of, and the most universal maxi dresses for less than $50. The selection of Pacifica lotions, perfumes, and candles caught my eye and I swooned over the Sandalwood scent perfectly balanced with top notes of tangerine. Patricia also crafts her own necklaces of antique lace and wallpaper pressed between glass and dangling from a fine silver chain - wearable and remarkable for sure. I was also blown away by the discovery of a chiffon flower necklace I had seen at Anthropologie for $38, sold here for $18...see it pays to buy boutique:)

Don't miss the second room, where there are great sale items to be had, as well as more feminine jewelry, including one of our favorite feel good finds, 31 Bits, and a satisfying selection of little gift items. I was able to park right out front at 10am (bring quarters!), and they were the only boutique open that early - so head there first, treat yourself to a refreshing Cran Mary pedicure, and slowly shop this sweet spot as you wait for your toes to dry!
