BOUTIQUING.COM WHAT TO WEAR - On a Job Interview

By April @ Boutiquing.com

Knowing that Orange County's unemployment rate has now hit 9.2%, many of us are on the job hunt and with plenty of competition. A fab resume, great referrals, and stellar interview skills are obviously most important right now, but there is also the angle of standing out from the crowd of potential candidates that seem to be lining up for every job. Look to your wardrobe to make that lasting impression throughout the interview process, and feel confident and memorable by presenting the MOST professional version of yourself. So, if you haven't taken our style quiz, take it HERE (I know, more questions about yourself...but it's fun, promise). Remember your Style Letter and check out your interview look.

A: Aspiring Stylist

Play on your creative side. Many employers are looking for people that can fill multiple roles within their company. Use your adept eye for unusual color combinations and your artistic style to show that you have an eye for design. One statement accessory is all you need, and keep the bag and shoes neutral so you are memorable for your personality and polished appearance, not the 12 bangles on your wrist.

B: Best of the Best

Now is the time to pull out your BEST black pencil skirt and shiny heels that make you walk taller and exude confidence. A potential employer needs to feel instinctively that you are capable and trustworthy. A sophisticated outfit with strong accessories shows that you mean business, and the blue blouse is possibly THE most flattering color on everyone! Don't forget your watch, it shows that time is important to you...and every employer will appreciate that.

C: Celebrating Sexy

As tempting as it may be to be a little sexy in an interview, don't risk coming off as flippant. Show your feminine side in a ruffle front blouse in a serious shade, and balance the look with well cut black pants. Add in a stylish shoe and express your sexy side in a luxe animal print bag. Err on the side of conservative and let your sparkling personality be the blinged out part if the outfit:) Most employers are looking for the best person for the job, as well as an addition to an established team, so don't forget that your "fit in with anyone" personality could cinch the job!

D: Daring Dabbler

Seems like most of our Daring Dabbler's are on the young side, so it is important that you strive for a polished professional look. That said, DO NOT borrow a black suit from someone and blend into the background. Put together a twist on a suit by pairing a modern print dress with a knee length hem and a belted black jacket to finish the look. A great pair of black heels and a delicate necklace will show that you put thought into the details...an attribute employers are ALWAYS
looking for, regardless of your age.

E: Everyday Ease

Put the jeans down...put the black dress down...put the button up shirt down... This is your opportunity to look like the stylish woman you are. Regardless of the type of interview you are going on, a flattering print dress will do the job. A dark pattern is great camouflage and neutral heels lengthen the leg. Even if it has been a while since you interviewed for a job, think of all the life experience you can now offer your potential employer, not to mention your professional problem solving ability. Let them be shocked to find out that you have 2 kids at home, and keep your cell phone close in your working woman purse...in case the babysitter calls:)

BOUTIQUING.COM WHAT TO WEAR - Going to the Fair

The OC Fair is the place to be this weekend! The Super Fair has it ALL this year, fast rides, fried foods, and entertainment unlike any year I can remember. This occasion is tough in the style department though. First of all....it's HOT, then there is all of the walking, and lastly, something I learned the hard way this year, you have to wear close toed shoes if you want to go on the Fun Houses! And really, who doesn't want to have their own Grease moment on the balcony of the Fun House at the fair?

So here we go, it's broken down by Style Letter...take our quiz here to find out what letter you are!

A: Aspiring Stylist
There will be enough bad style at the Fair, bring your "A" game and feel the envious stares of, "Why didn't I dress cute like her?". Start with a great pair of distressed boyfriend jeans, cool cotton blouse, easy (closed toe) sandals, and a stylish bag and belt that pull the look together. Now, go ahead, pull him into the photo booth...you look great:)

B: Best of the Best
Bring some chic to the Fair with a bit of classic glamour. A cinched waist blouse and printed full skirt keep you stylish and comfortable. Add in a great pair of flats and a casual straw bag an d you don't even have to stay for the hot dog, this look will take you into any restaurant in the OC.

C: Celebrating Sexy
You know how to work a heel, and the fair is no place to feel like a frump. Pair some fun and sparkly shoes with a pair of cropped jeans and a flirty tank. Add in some incognito with a sexy hat and sunglasses and enjoy the atmosphere like a little kid!

D: Daring Dabbler
Channel your inner day off starlet with a cropped denim skirt, neon embellished tank, and your favorite pair of Chuck Taylor's. Enjoy the view from behind a pair of Ray Bans, just don't be surprised if people ask for your autograph, this look is sure to solicit that "is she someone?" second glance.

E: Everyday Ease
Admit it, you love the fair, no organic applesauce in sight and guaranteed family entertainment for the day. Wear a cute pair of cropped jeans, and casual yet flattering knit top, and your trusty ballet flats. Add a nice size tote, you know how kids just seem to collect things, and be ready for an old fashioned day of family fun!

OC BOUTIQUE SHOPPING: What to Wear on a Date!

By: April
So, one of our fave boutique owners spurred a debate on Facebook this week with the simple question..."jeans or dress on a first date?" Our Facebook fans and Twitter followers were pretty certain jeans were the way to a man's heart...but we thought we should break it down boutiquing style.

***WARNING: Take THIS QUIZ before reading on...or you will have NO idea what we are talking about!***

What to Wear on a Date
:
based on what style "Letter" you are...

A: Aspiring Stylist
Go for your typical creative outfit, with a bit of chic sexiness. Keep it all a bit relaxed by basing your outfit on a simple tank and standout accessories. Leave the major fashion risks for a night out with the girls...they will appreciate the effort more:)

B: Best of the Best
Start with your best go to jeans and add a sexy fitted top that shows off your favorite peek of skin. A bold bag and sexy stiletto will grab the attention you want, and make you feel like a million bucks!

C: Celebrating Sexy
The overall consensus of our fans and followers was to save the true knock 'em dead sex appeal for a second date. So show off what you want by choosing a HOT shoe, fitted dress and leave the rest to his imagination.

D: Daring Dabbler
Your love for fun fashion will help you create a memorable look. A bold print dress and some sleek sandals are a perfect blend of feminine and fierce. Don't forget the statement necklace and bold clutch...it's a date, not the dentist:)

E: Everyday Ease
A night out comes along only once in a while...so don't blow your budget on a big night out ensemble. Truthfully, the hottest part of the date will probably be the adult conversation! But, show off a little more than normal with a cute and eye catching halter (with the necklace built in!), and add a higher heel to your jeans...that way your feet will remind you it IS a date!

What to Wear- Boutique Shopping in Orange County

Successful boutique shopping as you know, is a sport...the number one rule - be dressed appropriately! Introducing Boutiquing.com's new "What to Wear & Where to Get It" feature...where we will demystify typical invitation attire lingo...ie; festive attire suggested or dress to impress...and offer practical and stylish inspiration for the most confounding style situations.

Not only will we suggest great pieces...we will tell you which boutiques in Orange County have these items in stock...I know, I know...we love you too! Have somewhere to go...don't know what to wear? Leave us a comment and we will create your look!

What to Wear - Boutique Shopping in Orange County

The first What to Wear addresses the issue of what to wear for a fab day of boutique shopping! Start with a great comfy oxford shirt that is easy on and off in the fitting room. Pair the shirt with skinny distressed denim to offset the preppiness of the shirt. I am a big fan of unexpected accessorizing, and a great flower cocktail ring in a bold color adds a bit of whimsy to a basic look. The fringe bag is not only totally of the moment...it can be worn across the body and leaves both hands free for digging through the sale rack! The final touch, a great pair of shades...boutique shopping IS an outdoor sport:) Love 'em or hate 'em...Ray Ban Wayfarers are here to stay!

Clockwise from top:
Oxford Shirt - Laguna Supply
Enamel Flower Ring - Lola Rouge
Ksubi Denim - Westerly or Adrift
Fringe Bag - Pink Mascara
Ray Ban Wayfarers - Stella

...AND the shoes!

Two shoe options...one for the die hard heel wearers - these are the most comfortable heels EVER! And a great gladiator sandal that zips up the back...perfect in so many ways!

Platform Leather Sandal - LANIS
Gladiator Flat - Sasha
