Pretty in Pink Boutique - Retro 80's Done Right

With a name like "Pretty in Pink," I was mentally prepared to find bubblegum tufted walls abounding with frilly frocks and other Barbie-esque accents, but I was surprised to discover that the name of this gem of a boutique was derived from the classic 80's flick as opposed to one overpowering color palette. Greeted by one of the owners herself and her uber-talented husband (he is responsible for the best sale sign ever: a custom chalk tattoo on the concrete ushering you in for style and savings) with The Cure rocking out of the speakers, I was immediately transported to a world where retro rules and tough is chic. Not to disappoint, a hot pink wall highlights the open space with a damask print ceiling, lush velvet curtains, and racks full of sleek and edgy attire that would make Molly Ringwald jealous. In case you don't get your fix of stellar style and the soundtrack to match, you can even purchase pop art from local artists to polish up your pad.

Fulfill your fancy for all things studded and sexy or stock up on funky flair from amazing accessory collections. From handcuffs and revolvers, to cassette tapes and headphones, the solid brass jewelry line Monserat de Lucca brings out your playful side (my inner child couldn't resist buying a pair of Pac-Man earrings). Browse vintage suitcases packed with throwback tees and rocker sweatshirts from Chaser LA or slip into a sleek pair of leggings jeans (for under $80!) by Dish Denim. If you don't need to be daring all the time, they also stock some slick basics at great prices, jackets and dresses by Ellison, and cozy knits from Beulah.

Owners Holly and Danielle are proactive about bringing in emerging designers that you won't find everywhere else, so needless to say I will continue to frequent the Costa Mesa boutique at Harbor and Adams (in the Paul Mitchell center, where parking is a breeze). Or rather, in the words of our dear Duckie, "I'm off like a dirty shirt" to get a fashionable taste of the 80's at surprisingly low prices.
